Junior room school tour

The junior room went to Secret Valley Wildlife Park in Clonroche on our school tour. We had an amazing day. The children fed the baby goats and also the llamas and alpacas. They  met and petted a variety of small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs , cockroaches, a corn snake and a tortoise called Toby. They saw a variety of other animals including prairie dogs, meerkats, ring tailed lemurs , monkeys, macaws and some larger farm animals . They had a trip on the quad train and spent some time in the indoor play area. Unfortunately , the rain prevented us form exploring the park fully but we hope to return in the future.

Clay art in the Junior Room

We have recently completed a clay module in the Junior room. First we explored the qualities of air dry clay  and learned some techniques for shaping and sculpting it. Next we created imaginary creatures from clay, with varying levels of success! Then we created clay Fairy doors .We left them to harden for a week and then painted them with  acrylic paints. The children are justifiably delighted with the results.

Greenschools Energy Flag -Solar Ovens

Our pupils made the most of the lovely sunshine today and made delicious smores  using a solar oven designed and created by our students using recycled cardboard.  They have been learning all about Solar Energy and the STEM project was a great way to finish it off as part of our work on the Greenschools Energy Flag .
