Climate Action Literacy Workshop

This term, pupils took part in an exciting Climate Action Workshop with Sanja  where they explored the impact of fast fashion on the environment and discovered creative ways to reuse and recycle old clothing. The workshop encouraged pupils to think carefully about sustainability and how small changes in everyday life can make a big difference to the planet.

During the workshops  pupils learned about the environmental cost of producing clothes, including the large amounts of water, energy and transport involved in the fashion industry. They discussed how textile waste affects the environment and explored ways to reduce waste by repairing, reusing and upcycling old items instead of throwing them away.

Using old clothes and recycled materials, pupils worked creatively to design and make their own unique fashion pieces. They learned simple sewing and design skills while transforming unwanted clothing into colourful new creations.

As part of the workshops  pupils also explored the importance of plants and animals in our world. They learned how plants provide oxygen, food and habitats, while animals and insects play vital roles in pollination and healthy ecosystems. These activities helped pupils understand the connection between biodiversity and climate action.

The children also investigated the life cycle of a plastic bottle, learning how plastic is produced, used and disposed of. They discussed the dangers of plastic pollution for wildlife and oceans and explored practical ways to reduce single-use plastics in everyday life.

The workshop concluded with a wonderful “Fast Fashion Fashion Show,” where pupils proudly showcased their upcycled outfits and explained the environmental messages behind their designs. It was a fantastic celebration of creativity, sustainability and climate awareness, and pupils thoroughly enjoyed sharing their learning with others.
