Pupils this week enjoyed lots of science experiments. At the start of the week , we heated milk in a microwave and poured in vinegar. This created a chemical reactions with between the vinegar ( an acid ) and the protein in the milk. The milk separated into curds and whey and the pupils got to see what Little Miss Muffet was eating. Some Pupils were brave enough to taste the curds and whey !
The pupils then moulded the curds with a bone cutter to form a bone like structure. Over a few days the mould hardened.
The pupils then investigated what would happen if they dropped an egg into vinegar. They discovered the acid would dissolve the calcium carbonate on the egg’s shell and cause the shell to become rubbery! The pupils then left the egg in the air to see if the shell would absorb the carbon in the air to harden back up. Pupils also investigated air and conducted experiments to demonstrate that air takes up space.
